Violin, Viola, & Cello
Violin, Viola & Cello | Ages 6 and Up
Our string lessons combine Traditional and Suzuki methods, focusing on proper technique, posture, music reading, ear training, and instrument care. We tailor lessons to each student’s age and skill level to build a strong musical foundation.
When to Start
Most children start between ages 6 and 8, when they can focus during lessons. Some students, especially violin beginners, may start as young as 5 years old if they have enough attention span.
Benefits of Learning Strings Early
Playing strings improves hand-eye coordination by training both hands independently – fingering notes while controlling the bow. It also encourages healthy posture habits and enhances reading skills through music notation.
Renting vs. Buying
We recommend renting instruments for beginners, which allows easy size adjustments as your child grows. Many rental plans also offer purchase options if lessons continue long term.
Lesson Approach
Beginners use finger tapes on the fingerboard to learn correct finger placement. Students start by plucking strings to develop pitch recognition, then gradually add bowing techniques as they progress.

Private lessons are offered weekly and last 30 or 45 minutes, depending on age and level.
